Set Up Your Wallet
RAAKbit tokens need a wallet if you want to trade, use, or hold onto them for the long haul—helping kids rise along the way. We’ve given you plenty of wallet options, and the best one depends on how you plan to use your RAAKbit tokens to spark hope.
There are two main types of wallets to know about: “custodial” and “non-custodial,” based on who holds your wallet’s secret key. Wallets can also be “hot” or “cold,” depending on if they’re online or offline.
Custodial Wallets and Non-Custodial Wallets
A custodial wallet means someone else—like a trusted company—holds your secret key for you. Think of “custodial” as them keeping your RAAKBit tokens safe on your behalf. Web wallets from crypto exchanges are a typical example of custodial wallets.
Some folks love custodial wallets because they’re easy to use—great for people who trade RAAKbit often and want convenience without worrying about managing keys.
A non-custodial wallet, though, puts you in charge—you hold your secret key. Smartphone apps, browser wallets like MetaMask, and hardware wallets are often non-custodial. Your key stays on your device, not with a company, which is why many prefer them. It’s where the saying “not your keys, not your RAAKbit” comes from—complete control, full responsibility.
But here’s the catch: with non-custodial wallets, don’t lose your key or secret words (called a seed phrase)! Back it up somewhere safe—like on paper in a locked drawer—and never share it with anyone you don’t trust completely. If you lose it, you can’t get your tokens back.
Hot Wallets and Cold Wallets
A hot wallet is any wallet connected to the internet. This includes browser add-ons like MetaMask, smartphone apps, and desktop wallets. Depending on who holds the key, hot wallets can be custodial or non-custodialy.
A cold wallet stays offline—think hardware wallets like Ledger or even a paper wallet (where you write down your key). Many feel cold wallets are safer since they’re harder to hack, making them a top pick for folks holding RAAKBit long-term to support kids over time.
That said, most people find non-custodial hot wallets—like smartphone apps—safe enough for everyday use or small amounts of RAAKBit. They’re handy for joining our community or using tokens to make an impact.
Here’s a tip: you can use more than one wallet for RAAKbit! With almost no fees, moving tokens between wallets is cheap. Many use a cold wallet to keep larger amounts secure but grab a hot wallet—custodial or non-custodial—for daily actions, like joining our airdrop or shopping our store. Mix and match—it’s up to you!
